The Ballad of Narayama

Narayama bushikô is a movie starring Kinuyo Tanaka, Teiji Takahashi, and Yûko Mochizuki. A kabuki theatre-inflected story about a poor village whose people have to be carried to a nearby mountain to die once they get old.
