An adaptation of John Grisham’s novel of the same name. At the center of the story is young lawyer Rudy Baylor (Milo Callahan), who, after overcoming a difficult childhood and a family tragedy, graduates from law school with honors. Rudy is preparing to start work at Tinley Britt, Charleston’s most prestigious law firm, alongside his smart and wealthy girlfriend Sarah (Madison Iseman).
On his very first day, Rudy clashes with senior partner Leo Drummond (John Slattery) and is immediately fired. Stuck between hiring cycles, Rudy desperately lands at the barely refurbished “Taco Hut,” which serves as the office for the ethically unscrupulous Bruiser Stone (Lana Parrilla). She offers him a position in the contingency department, working with the cheerful ambulance chaser Deck Shifflet (P.J. Byrne) — a so-called “paralawyer,” meaning he graduated from law school but failed the bar exam seven times.
Rudy enters his new firm with two cases picked up at a free legal aid event: an inheritance client whom no one else seems to care about, and Dot Black (Karen Bryson, bringing much-needed gravity), a grieving mother whose son was hospitalized with the flu and died…
